July Newsletter Hot Off the PressThe heat is on at StoneMetal Press this summer as members and friends are currently exhibiting in “hot Off the Press”. Our resident volunteer printmakers Sean and Leah did a fabulous job of hanging the show and we had -yet again- great attendance at our First Thursday and First Friday openings. We’ve received tons of great comments about the show since then; from the high quality of work, to the range of printmaking approaches. Printmaking classesClasses are still open for enrollment. They were put together pretty late in the summer when most people have already made summer plans. But they are great classes, so we are hoping that as we do a better job of getting the word out, more people interested in printmaking will be available to either get introduced to a new technique or take the class as a refresher. 2011 Hand Pulled Prints XVThe prospectus for the 2011 StoneMetal Press Biannual Hand Pulled Prints XV is finally available on the StoneMetal Press website. Go to “What’s New” to download a PDF copy and fill out an application before December 10. Ursula Davila –Villa from the Blanton Museum of Art will be the show’s juror. LoteríaArtists continue to submit work and are scheduling time to come in and print with resident printmaker and SMP Vice-President Jim Kane. We still plan to complete printing in September and to have a Lotería Fundraiser in October 2011. We have in the works giving proper documentation, with more photos, artists’ comments and research for what is becoming a fascinating project. Go to our facebook page “Arte de Lotería” to keep updated.
Second Saturday Open Studio
Due to an unforeseen schedule conflict Alex Rubio will not be pulling prints this Second Saturday, 10 AM. In his place we have asked our Studio Director, Joseph Adams, to print his silk screen Lotería card image "La Estrella". This will be a great preview for those who may be interested in taking a class in Photo Emulsion Silk Screen Printing. This will be the first edition pulled of the Lotería deck.
